NEWBURY womenare being urged to get the New Year off to a great start by signing up now toCancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2015.

Every hour, aroundfive people are diagnosed with cancer in the South East*.

And that’swhy Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Newbury to fight back againstthis devastating disease by entering Race for Life 5k or 10k events at NewburyShowground on Sunday, July 5. 

As well asraising funds for life-saving research, taking part in Race for Life is an easyway to be more active – perfect for those setting themselves a fitness goal astheir New Year’s resolution.

Fiona Miller,Cancer Research UK’s Newbury Event Manager, said: “We’re urging women of allages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.

“Race for Life is non-competitive.It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hourwhile chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dancearound the course if they prefer.

“If you’relooking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those Januaryblues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life. With fire in theirbellies and trainers at the ready, we know that Newbury ladies are up for thechallenge.”

CancerResearch UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiringwomen-only series of 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events which raise millions of poundsevery year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.

Last year, 2047 women took part inRace for Life in Newbury and raised a fantastic £114,106. This year, organisersneed 2200 women and girls to stride out to help raise £120,000.

Money raisedthrough Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses andscientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, womenand children across Berkshire.

Cancer survival rates have doubledsince the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of thatprogress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward theday when all cancers are cured.

Fiona continued:“We’re calling on the brave ladies of Newbury to show their fighting spiritonce more and take on cancer at this year’s event.

“Race for Life is to celebrate thosewho are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere iselectric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Newburyto help make 2015 our best year yet.”
